early type circa 1843, with 3in. six-shot barrel cluster, flat side-ribs, one stamped 'CAST STEEL' and 'PATENTED 1837', applied roll engraved nipple-shield, rounded loosely scroll engraved bar-hammer action, the side of the hammer marked 'ALLEN & THURBER NORWICH C-T', the top of hammer 'ALLEN'S PATENT' (the latter rubbed), guarded trigger, quick drop handle fitted with ivory grips, both in turn inlet with small oval escutcheons, slight traces of finish
